TOKYO -(Dow Jones)- Japan's opposition-controlled House of Councillors endorsed a nonbinding censure motion against embattled Prime Minister Taro Aso at a plenary session Tuesday, Kyodo News reported.

The Democratic Party of Japan-led opposition bloc plans to refuse to take part in any Diet proceedings ahead of Aso's planned dissolution of the House of Representatives next week.

Earlier in the day, the lower house, where the ruling bloc of Aso's Liberal Democratic Party and the New Komeito party enjoys a comfortable majority, voted down a no-confidence motion against Aso's Cabinet.
